Athenaeum Alley

Under the purview of this blog's unofficial motto, "Cavalier tastes, but Roundhead values," let me link to this slideshow of New England Athenaeums (is that the correct pluralization?) at the New York Times. Athenaeum was a name commonly used in the Georgian and Victorian periods to describe literary clubs, the most famous of which is in London. No comment here, just pretty pictures.

  1. Very pretty alright. It appeals to the considerable antiquarian in me.

    You're right about the cavalier tastes, roundhead values motto, which is why we favour champagne jacobites over chardonnay republicans. I think we could do a better job at advertising this fact.
