Ian Fleming (1908-64), the creator of James Bond and
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang turned 100 today. His experience as a Commander in the Royal Navy working in naval intelligence during the Second World War served him well as a writer of spy novels in the 1950s. In addition to his contribution to British culture, he was a bibliophile and nurtured a large and specialised collection of books.
