New British Holiday on Queen's Birthday?

THE Queen’s Birthday will become a national holiday under Tory plans to create a sense of “True Britishness”, David Cameron tells The Sun.

I do think it's a nice idea for the UK honour HM in this way, her Majesty’s realms have been having public holidays for Her Majesty’s Birthday since 1952…

Just thought I would give you a little insight into the editorial decision making process at Monarchy Wales online. Originally we were going to run with this story (our Top Story in fact), but we were not convinced enough by David Cameron's language. Rather than say with conviction and without doubt "I will be making The Queen's Birthday a national holiday", he merely says "the suggestion of a national day is a very good one". Hence the rather large (too large) question mark in the title of the piece. I think it is a good idea too but that is slightly different from saying that I will bring it about. Indeed, in the recent past in Britain Conservative politicians have argued against national holidays on the grounds that business cannot afford to give them. Therefore, will this national "holiday", if it ever came about, be one in reality or just in spirit - like our beloved St George's Day. Believe it or not, you have to watch out for politicians and their vague and slippery language. In this regard they are just like republicans. Now who would have thought that.
