"With inky blots and rotten parchment bonds..."

After reading Beaverbrook and Walsingham's excellent, if sad post below the above words immediately came to mind. They are from Shakespeare's Richard II, Act II Scene I. I have taken the liberty - hopefully not too great a liberty - on the attention of this blog's readers in quoting John of Gaunt famous deathbed speech. Whenever the idea of the European project is brought up, and Britain's surrender to it, this speech seems the only appropriate response. "That England, that was wont to conquer others, Hath made a shameful conquest of itself." How very true!!!

Methinks I am a prophet new inspir'd,
And thus expiring do foretell of him:
His rash fierce blaze of riot cannot last,
For violent fires soon burn out themselves;
Small showers last long, but sudden storms are short;
He tires betimes that spurs too fast betimes;
With eager feeding food doth choke the feeder;
