Remember, remember the 6th of November (1999)

By David Byers (Convenor of ACM in Country, New South Wales)

Today is a glorious day for all loyal Australians for it is the 8th anniversary of the victory of people over the politicians, the politicly correct and the media. This was the victory of the ordinary Australian over the self-appointed republican elite, in the 1999 republic referendum.

Now republicans in Australia seem to fall into two groups; one that simply talks as if the referendum never even happened. The other that pretends the question was somehow rigged against them. The latter group is a truly odd one when one considers that they, the republicans, wanted two words removed from the question and those two words were “republic” and “president”

The people of Australia will not appreciate more money put into pushing another vote!

May I end by saying enjoy this day (which is also Melbourne Cup Day) and GOD Save the Queen of Australia!

Excellent post David. Welcome on board! With all your experience, expertise and plain speaking, you sure be one to add your own unique perspective to The Monarchist. When you speak, republicans quake. Yet Beavers be the lucky one - he now has South Wales and New South Wales.
